Chetan Bhagat’s best-selling book One Night @ A Call Centre is all set to release at a theatre near you, as Hello. Directed by Atul Agnihotri, the film stars Sharman Joshi, Gul Panag, Isha Koppikar, Amrita Arora and Sohail Khan, with guest appearances from Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.
Chetan takes us through his book’s characters, and tells us why these actors suit them best.
Shyam, played by Sharman Joshi
Shyam is a loser. He represents the typical middle class Indian. He has potential but his professional life faces problems, thanks to his love life.
There is a hidden message in the book, which is that even under confidence can help you get better in life. We Indians have the potential to be rulers but just because we are not doesn’t mean we stop loving our country. Priyanka loves Shyam but just because he is not in a good post, it doesn’t mean that she stops loving him.
Why Sharman suits Shyam
For this role, we wanted someone who very likable, and whom people can relate with. Sharman fits the role perfectly. He is a very meticulous actor. He memorises the script and gets into the zone of the character.
This is the first time he has done a sex scene on screen and I think this is the cutest and the sweetest sex scene ever shot!
Gul fit the bill because of her dimples
Priyanka, played by Gul Panag
Priyanka is very fascinating. She is lovable, but is very opinionated and stands up for herself. Sometimes she comes across as a dominating person. She is perfect for Shyam, as he needs someone strong like her to let him know constantly that he needs to take his life seriously.
She is upset with her mother as she keeps pushing her to marry Ganesh. Girls have a peculiar relationship with their mothers; they love them but they also fight with them. They want to keep their parents happy but at the same time, want to live their lives in their own terms. She is this typical Indian girl, who faces this quintessential dilemma. Priyanka’s character was inspired from my wife.
Why Gul Panag suits Priyanka
Gul fit the bill because of her dimples. She is very beautiful and a good actress. She is a little uptight and that suits the role. She is very meticulous. She did her accent training sessions and was very conscious of what she was doing.
