With an aim to promote the need to educate young girls and women about menstrual hygiene, Bollywood actress Gul Panag discussed openly about menstrual issues with a panel of panelist.
Raising concern on the issue, she said that societal attitude must change in order to lift the taboo around menstruation in the country. The panel discussion was organized by Stayfree, a brand of feminine hygiene products.
The discussion was held as part of ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day’ observed on May 28 every year.
The other panelists also spoke about the issue which leads to major health issues and stigma that jeopardize their health.
Dr. Anita Saini from Dr L.H Hiranandani Hospital in Mumbai said that the younger generation is, however, well informed.
Another panelist, Sinu Joseph, a counselor and menstrual hygiene educator spoke about the impact of cultural conflict on menstrual hygiene.
