NEW DELHI: If you always wanted to work out with Gul Panag, now is your chance. The model-turned-actor-turned-politician on Tuesday launched a tech startup Mobiefit that will develop mobile apps based on health and fitness. For starters, it will launch a running app with Panag playing the voice coach.
“I’ve always been involved with fitness and have been watching the tech space very closely. I feel, this is the right time to link both and create something that will shorten the gap between people and their fitness goals,” Panag told TOI. “The first app will be similar to Josh Clark’s Couch-to-5K, a mobile app designed to get just about anyone from the couch to running 5km in 9 weeks.”
Panag, who co-founded Mobiefit along with Prototyze, an incubator, will have stake in the company and will sport the designation of CFO (chief fitness officer). In India, health and fitness seem to be the buzzwords among tech companies. Recently, Xiaomi launched its fitness band here while Micromax founder Rahul Sharma is betting on health-based tech wearables and is creating an eco-system to augment the same. “The fitness industry is nascent in India at present. But it will explode soon,” said Panag.
