The Ayodhya verdict has been hailed as a “mature” decision by Bollywood celebrities who have urged their fans to maintain peace. The Indian film fraternity which had earlier made a passionate appeal to the people to exercise restraint and maintain calm, gave the ruling a thumbs up. Oscar
nominated director of films like Bandit Queen and Elizabeth, Shekhar Kapur gave his opinion on Twitter writing, “Mature handling by courts.”
Other A-listers like Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra and Preity Zinta too weighed in on Twitter.
“Thank you to the people of India for showing maturity and unity today and bravo to the media and the govt for handling the delicate situation wonderfully,” tweeted actress Preity Zinta.
Hrithik kept his response short by tweeting, “Keep the peace people,” and then re-tweeted Priyanka Chopra’s message.
The actress was the first to take to the social networking website after the verdict was announced this afternoon.
“Official details of the judgement are awaited but opinions are flowing in. Whether you agree or disagree, use your voice to make a point, no violence. And as I keep saying… keep the peace… it’s our nation at stake,” Priyanka wrote.
Her opinion was seconded by Arshad Warsi who tweeted “Let’s accept the judgement and ignore the lawyers and their opinion on news channels. Humanity should be our religion.”
“The Ayodhya verdict now gives little reason for both parties to fight. Like giving both parents joint custody. The ayodhya verdict seems cautious. And probably balanced. While at the same time acknowledging history(sic),” tweeted Gul Panag.
The Ayodhya title suit has been closely followed by Bollywood celebs, who have all appealed to their followers to abstain from violence.
On September 23, several film personalities like Ranbir Kapoor, Anil Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Ajay Devgn, Priyanka Chopra and others had addressed a press conference at Mehboob studios urging their fans in the rest of the country to maintain peace and communal harmony.
